ISAIAH 15

Key Verse: V1 “The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Maob is laid waste, and brought to silence.”

Who is Maob? Moab was the descendant of Lot who had sinned against God by committing incest with his older daughter.

Genesis 19:36-37 “Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.”

1.  You cannot hide your sins from God

Numbers 32:22-23 “And the land be subdued before the Lord: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord. But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.”

Lot sinned against God because he failed to stop his daughters from making him drunk and thus committing incest. As a result, Lot and his daughters were guilty before God. They tried to run away from God but deep in their hearts they knew they could not hide from their Almighty God.

2.  You cannot run from the consequences of your sins

Isaiah 15:1 “… Moab is laid waste, … Moab is laid waste …”

Although God forgives our sins if we confess and forsake them, we must bear the consequences of sins. No doubt God is love and once we sin against Him, God forgives and forgets our sins. However, we fail to realize that not only we but our children may reap the consequences of our sins such as if we commit sexual immorality and diseases such as AIDS be passed onto our children. The generation of Moab was such an example of God’s chastisement of the people of God. The burdens of their sins weighed heavily upon them as they refuse to repent their sins and reconcile with God.

3.  You cannot generalize that all sufferings are the consequences of your sins.

John 9:1-3 “And as Jesus passed by, He saw a man which was blind from his birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”

Not all sins that our children suffer are the results of our past sins. In this incidence, it is through the healing of the blind man that God’s glory spread abroad to all the people.

Food For Thought

You can run from God but you cannot hide from Him.
