Genesis 3 & 4: Man’s Awful Sin
Verse of the Day: (3:17) “And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;”

1. Serpent (3:1-24)
V1 “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”

God created everything good and especially man who was created in His own image. However, man failed God as he chose to sin against God’s command when he took and ate the forbidden fruit. It all began when the serpent who was none other than Lucifer (Isaiah 14:12) tempted and led man to sin against God. In fact, it was Eve, the woman, who was first tempted by the serpent as she succumbed to the lusts of her eyes and flesh and pride, followed by Adam, her husband. This is the beginning of the awful sin of man, and since then, man has to work hard on the ground for his living. However, God already had a redemption plan as He would send forth His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for man. Whoever therefore believes in Him shall never perish in fiery hell but have everlasting life with Him in glorious heaven - God’s greatest gift to man (Romans 5:15).

2. Sin (4:1-8)
V7 “If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.”

Adam and Eve had their children, Cain and Abel. Again, God tested them, and this time, He commanded Cain and Abel to offer sacrifices to Him. God accepted Abel’s sacrifice because Abel obeyed God by giving the right sacrifice which was the blood of the lamb signifying the prophecy of the coming of the Lamb, Jesus Christ, who would sacrifice His life and shed His blood for the sins of man. However, God rejected Cain’s offering which was the fruit of the ground. In anger, Cain killed Abel - the first awful sin. Though Abel lost his life but he is now in heaven with God because he believed and obeyed Him.

3. Sevenfold (4:9-26)
V15 “And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.”

Despite man’s sin, God still loved and protected man, and even set a mark on Cain, and warn others never to hurt him less they be punished 7 times. Indeed, God loves man but He hates sins and desires that all should repent of our sins and come to His saving grace.

Prayer of the Day:
Dearest God, thank You for Your forgiveness of my sins as I trust and obey You.
